CAD Architectural Drafting versus Manual Architectural Drafting

A manual drafter draws on a 2D rectangular surface of definite size, whereas a CAD designer draws on a 2D surface of infinite size. Hence, drawing figures of large sizes is not a hindrance.

CAD and Architectural Drafting

As in manual drafting, architectural CAD draftings are also created using certain drafting tools. Unlike manual drafting, however, all drawings using CAD drafting systems are accomplished by way of point specification. A manual drafter draws on a 2D rectangular surface of definite size, whereas a CAD designer draws on a 2D surface of infinite size. Hence, drawing figures of large sizes is not a hindrance.

Process

Conceptual Design

The creation of a conceptual design depends on a comprehensive understanding of the client’s requirements and forms the base for the subsequent drafts.
This is incorporated into a set of working drawings.

Architectural Drafting

The drafting begins after the conceptual design has been confirmed and the client’s feedback has been acquired. According to the needs of the design and the client, subsequent changes are made in the design, and drafts are created. With the use of CAD, changes can easily be incorporated and depicted.

Rendering

The design is turned into a 2D or 3D image. With the help of CAD, 3D modeling, walkthroughs, and animation, the structure can be viewed the way it would ultimately look.
