Nothing is broken. You have simply won more than usual, the peak will pass, and hiring for it makes no sense. The question is whether outside capacity can be useful inside the window you actually have.
It is not whether outside capacity exists. It is whether it can be useful before the peak ends.
Every arrangement carries a setup cost. Your conventions have to be captured, a first package has to be run and reviewed, and the first set takes longer than the fifth. On a short peak that cost can consume the benefit.
So the honest answer depends on two things: how long the peak lasts, and whether you expect another one. If this is genuinely the only peak you will ever have, the arithmetic is tight. If peaks recur, which for most millwork shops they do, the setup is paid once and every subsequent peak is cheaper.
We would rather say that than describe overflow work as though it were free to start.
