Custom Millwork Detailing Built once, designed for one project.

Work designed for one project and built once. It sits inside our shop and submittal drawings service, and this page explains what changes when nothing repeats.

What counts as custom

A reception desk with a curved front. A boardroom table nobody has built before. A feature wall where the geometry only resolves in three dimensions. A single fitted unit around a structural column that exists in one building.

Not a run of identical cabinets, however specific the finish. Custom means the item exists once.

One-off feature item elevation with a large-scale detail alongside
Custom work carries detail at a scale standard casework does not need.

What changes when nothing repeats

Every decision is made from scratch.
There is no library entry and no previous build to check against. Junctions, tolerances and construction methods get resolved individually.
The detail scale changes.
Standard casework is understood from an elevation and a section. A one-off item frequently needs details drawn at the scale where the joint is decided rather than described.
Some geometry cannot be sectioned.
Curved and faceted work is understood by modelling it. A section through a curve does not tell a fabricator what the surface does.
Constructability matters more.
With no precedent, whether the thing can be built, moved and installed is a live question rather than a settled one.

Which service covers it

Custom millwork is documented through shop and submittal drawings, which covers the approval package and the fabrication documents.

Where the geometry needs it, 3D and modelling resolves shapes a section cannot describe. The elevations, plans and sections themselves are set out under casework elevations.

If your work repeats rather than existing once, standard casework drawings is the closer fit.
